> If there’s one thing I wish I had ten times more of it’s the courage not to rely on broken systems to make me feel like I’m safe. (Merlin Mann on [_Back to Work_](http://5by5.tv/b2w) with Dan Benjamin on the [5by5 network](http://5by5.tv/).)
It’s time to admit it: I have a love-hate relationship with Merlin Mann. I love him because he is doing everything I would like to do: just getting out there and spewing out blue sparks as fast as he possibly can (and sometimes contradictorily), knowing that only a small percentage of them will stick but he is just enjoying the heck out of being able to spew. I hate him because he does it and I don’t. He was in the right place at the right time and he took full advantage of that opportunity. So, in the end, good for him. Me, I can only hope that I haven’t completely let slip my opportunity for having as much fun as this.
And a tip of the hat to Scott Weingart, if he reads this, because he reminds me a lot of Mann: just having a heckuva good time and has developed an audience for the fullness of his creativity. (Good for you, too, Scott.)
